Fabric Prices
#1
This morning I read (somewhere on the board) that all cotton fabric was going to go up in price. (just once I would love to see something go down  ) Well, I needed to stop at my lqs while I was out and about so I asked the owner about it. She said yes everything cotton would jump in price as of 6/1  AND she said that they will jump quite a bit. Yippie  When I asked her why, all she said is you can thank Washington. Don't worry, I'm not going to get into politics  This is going to take a big toll on a lot of quilters, myself included. Sure wish I would win the big one so I could "lay in" a huge stash (or at least bigger than I have) before this happens

If it happens everyone needs to boycott. As long as we keep buying it will go up and up. It will hurt the LQS in the beginning but if we worked together maybe we could have an effect.
That's why we got the fuel prices back down last year, people quit driving their big SUVs for a while and then of course everyone started driving again and up it went.

how come when anything bad happens we thank washington and not the greedy fabric manufacturers? just so they won't feel left out, i say:
THANK YOU GREEDY AMERICAN FABRIC MANUFACTURERS WHO BUY FOREIGN COTTON AS WELL AS OUR OWN AND HAVE IT MILLED OVERSEAS AS WELL AND THEN BRING IT ON HOME AND SELL IT TO YOUR OWN COUNTRYMEN AT A GREATLY RAISED PRICE.
WE LOVE YOU FOR OUTSOURCING THE JOBS AND CHARGING US MORE MONEY. A DOUBLE WHAMMY FOR US AND A DOUBLE YIPPEE! FOR YOU.

It seems like we blame Washington for everything, even when the toilet don't flush.

Boycotting the local quilt shops isn't fair, they struggle as it is to stay in business. However Walmart, Joanns, Hancocks etc. they can take a hit with a boycott because they have other product lines to keep them afloat. Better yet would be a letter writing campaign to our senators or to a specific senator would make a bigger impact. Maybe save all of our itty bitty scraps and include them with the letter showing them what we will have to sew with if they raise the duties on fabric so high that we can't afford it.

That just stinks. I am going to the LQS on Monday to pick out some fabrics for my Mother's Day gift. Looks like that will probably be the last I will get for some time. :(
I already boycott Walmart fabrics but only because they never have any new fabric or any of quality. Hancocks in another place I seldom buy from. They are high and are like Walmart, seldom get anything new in.
Connecting Threads benefitted from this thread. I just place an order for some fabric I have been wanting.
