Feathers please help!!!!!!
#1
I have been doing free motion quilting for about six months and I love feathers. I have been trying to make them and can not seem to get close, I would love any tips or suggestions on how to do it. Here are some pictures of some feathers on a border I am working on. I have seen them two different ways one- the feathers touch second- there is a space between the feathers. Which is correct. I have been doing all types of research and I decided my best resource was here. This is the quilt back the thread does not show that much on the front.

When you go to your LQS look at the quilting books there. You'll find there is no one correct way to make feathers. some feathers have heart shaped ends ... some have another teardrop like stitching inside them. That is the beauty of using them ... you can 'express' yourself ... or tell everyone it was a design decision you made. [Never said it was an error. It was a 'design decision.']

Your feathers look fine to me. There is no "right" way to do them, but there are several ways you can use, depending on preference.
This tutorial is good

I found it a good way and easy.
Just recently I bought a book which is good, and the method is easy

Your feathers are looking fine. I think feathers usually look better after the background surrounding them is filled. You can echo outline them and suddenly a lonely feather looks "finished". I like them to curve around and have loops of different lengths. Other people like them to be very controlled and even. It's all a matter of preference.
