Fire and Smoke quilt damage
#1
Hello everyone, I wanted to see if anyone has had luck with quilt damage do to fire and smoke? Our sons house burnt last week, and I have made them many quilts over the years. The insurance took them to a special cleaner that works with this. Big quilts, baby quilts and lap quilts were all damaged. They also had 2 antique quilts. One I know didn't survive, it was in the family room where the fire started. It was an electrical fire and no one was home at the time, so the kids are all safe, that is the main concern.
Just wanted to check to see if severe damage from smoke ever really comes out.

If anyone can get the smoke smell out they can. A friends home had some major smoke damage and the professionals got it out of their clothing and linens. Most insurance companies work with people that are "tried and true" in matters like this.

My brother is also going thru this . He has had some luck with the cleaning of the clothes. It seems as if the cotton items are faring better then say , the leather and polyester items.
LOL I spent one evening last week smelling clothes
But all in all they do a good job
So sorry you are going thru this also, but Thankfully no one was hurt

I had a fire once. The company that takes the smoke out missed a coupla things...they still had the smell in them. I put the clothes in the washer, filled the washer with water added baking soda (about 1/2 box) and let it agitate. Once I felt the soda was mixed in good, I shut off the washer and let it sit for a few hours. Then drained the washer and washed in normal manner. The clothes smelled just fine after that!
Glad everyone was okay.
