I was standing in line at the cutting table at Joann's this morning and I started talking to another quilter. She started talking about Fabric & Friends in Roanoke and how nice of a shop it was. Well, I had nothing else to do today so I decided to take a road trip (just a short one, about 30 minutes from my house). This shop is in the middle of a small town on Second Street. It is in an old brick house that is over 100 years old. Had a wide wooden front porch with a swing on it!! Well, inside the store was pure heaven in the fabric sense!!! The fabrics are in different rooms on the first floor of this house. And sooooo many fabrics!!! I could have spent all day there!!! The owner, Cheryl and another lady who cut my fabric was there. We talked and talked and I found some FABULOUS fabrics for my next quilt project. I got on their email list (website coming in the next couple of weeks) and every month on the first Friday and Saturday, Cheryl has a super sale where she chooses a manufacturer and discounts the fabric 30%! There is catered food (free!). This month was Moda. The line of fabrics is kept mum until right before the sale. I am on cloud 9 right now! I'm willing to drive 30 mins for service like this from a LQS. There is only LQS in Fort Wayne and their service is hit or miss so I rarely shop there. Just wanted to get Fabrics & Friends name out there on the board if it hasn't been before and thought I would show my treasures from today!!

There is a LQS in Rochester, IL (about 5 miles south of Springfield) that is in a building similar to the one mentioned here. It at one time had been a grocery store...still has the wooden plank floors.

It's a great shop! When I visited there last year, one of the women working there, about my age, told me she went to my high school's #2 rival in Decatur (40 miles east)in the early 60's. We picked up the "rivalry" where we had left it when we graduated. %>)
