One of the reasons I got my Viking is becaue of the large throat space it has for FMQ. So I read the instruction manual and followed all the rules. Kept thinking I was doing something wrong cause I was never satisfied with the tension and stitches. Then I read Leah Day's suggestion about using a Supreme Slider and leaving the feed dogs up. This helped but the tension still wasn't consistent. So, the other day I tackled a FMQ project. The machine has a setting for the hopping foot so I made that adjustment. At least I thought I did. As I sewed I found my tension and stitches were looking pretty good. WOW! Maybe I'm finally getting it. Then I noticed that I hadn't adjusted the setting for the hopping foot at all. Lesson learned: don't be afraid to break the rules. Now I'm FMQ with a lot less anxiety and actually enjoying it.
