Folding Fabric to Store
#1
How do you fold your fabric to store it - Most quilting fabric is 44" wide. It is normally comes off the bolt folded in half (now 22" wide) -
So my question now is - how do you fold it now - do you fold it again (so it is 11" wide) before folding into a neat stack (usually around a 6"x24" ruler to make neat piles of fabric.
Or do you wrap it round the ruler now and then fold it in half - I think I have done it both ways - so confused

My larger pieces (over 2 yards) are wrapped around a 6 x 24 ruler with the original fold, 22" then I fold the entire wrap in half so it is aprox 11"
My 1/2 to 2 yd pieces are folded to the 22 then folded down to a reasonable size, then folded to the 11 and then down to about 4" wide.

Big plastic tubs are just not working - I think I am going to try putting shelving in my closet

I fold the fabric in half again (down to approx. 11" wide) and then wrap it around a 8 1/2" x 11" piece of chipboard, tucking in the ends. I then slide the chipboard out to use again. It makes a nice neat stack!

Not only do I have my own folding system so that it fits my shelves, but I insist at the store that they let me fold the fabric I'm buying. I want it ready to put away when I get home. I find that if I have to refold at home, it sits on the work table a few days.
