I don't think it really needs a border, however, sometimes I want to put one on just to clean up the edges. Do you have any of the background fabric? A nice 2 1/2 inch border all the way around would look nice.

I agree with Girlfriend. Border of the background and then use the scraps to make a scrappy binding. Only one more suggestions. You can choose whatever makes you and your mom happy. Prayers go out for Mom and you.

If you feel it needs a border, piece the scraps you have along with the neutral colour - I'm thinking similar to those rainbow borders you see around. I don't think it needs one either but if I needed one for size, I would simply use the neutral colour so as not to distract from your mother's lovely workand I would bind it in the neutral colour as well. My evil twin sister would say bind it in red and black!

I'd go with no border and the "white" to bind. Backing...keep it a light color or print. JMHO...LOVE the top. Hugs and prayers to you and your mom. (My mom will be 96 in February and has severe Alzheimer's. She, too, doesn't remember making beautiful quilt tops years ago. It is so sad...)

I agree with Lynnie, it should have a border to "control the action" as my teacher used to say. any of the colors in the top will do just fine.
I am sorry to hear about your mother's long farewell.

It's a lovely top, but not all quilts HAVE to have a border, personally very, very rarely do any of my quilts have a border. I think it looks great just like it is. Your mother did a wonderful job on it.

What a pretty quilt top. Depending on the amount of scraps you have could you make a chain of various colors to go around the entire quilt? If you do I was thinking that might tie the entire quilt together and then bind in a medium to darker blue, but not super dark blue. Hope this helps, keep us posted as to how you finish it. It is going to be beautiful regardless.
