I have test driven them at Martelli's open house and they do grip really well. So if you have trouble with arthritis they may work for you to hold the knobs instead of the fabrics. I didn't purchase them because it seems like I was constantly having to readjust the ring. Think of it like an embroidery hoop moving around the quilt. I guess I just go faster than that when I freemotion.

I have them and love them. They grip really well. I don't have arthritis or anything, but I found that my hands would get tired and sore doing fmq (with gloves). The Martelli ring fixed that.
I didn't find that readjusting the ring took any more time than readjusting my hands in fmq. In fact, I got both size rings and prefer the smaller one.

Oh my gosh, I just posted a response in the request for "quilting gloves". I absolutely love these rings. I bought both sizes and have used them for years. Just a bit of gripper material on the underside of the rings, but they hold the fabric well. I also like that I am just able to concentrate on the area in the circle of the rings, I think that helps too. I also love not having to take gloves off and on. I have seen them on sale and anything less than $125 for both would be a great price as I believe that is what I paid. All said, I would easily give these rings a solid star rating of 5 or 10 - whatever would be the highest rating!
