i have, my son lives in Florida and does not want the weight or warmth of the extra layer, but he likes the feel of flannel so i always use a flannel back but never batting...goes just fine. i've made quilts with regular cottons top and back with out batting too, but a layer of muslin instead. make it the way you want it it is your project. be creative and explore the possibilities!

Yes but......I would use a good heavy weight flannel not the thinner cheaper stuff at JoAnns....JMO. This makes a nice light weight quilt for cooler climates. Like my friends in Florida who roast under a normal quilt for someone who lives where the temps really fall in the winter months, they always ask for a light weight quilt.
You can also use fleece for a bit warmer quilt.

Jodi, JoAnn does not have ALL thin flannel.I have used their mid-priced flannel and have had very good results. It is just the very inexpensive that is so thin. It is pretty much like that everywhere. I always buy it on sale.

You are so right and I am (sort of) so wrong!! JoAnns does have some pretty good flannel but they also have a lot of pretty thin stuff. The old phrase, buyer beware is a good thing to remember when shopping.
