have you been so excited to finish quilt?

OH yes - I have to be very careful not to rush the process towards the end. I sewed more hours non-stop this weekend than I want to even admit. Making a housewarming quilt for my daughter. She's not moving until June 22 or so - I have plenty of time - but I just love how it's turning out. At 3:00 AM - just a few blocks short of finishing piecing it - I made myself stop. I do have work today! When I was more of a beginner I got ahead of myself - started putting borders on - just to see how they'd look - when I wasn't finished putting the rows together. That made a mess!

I get excited about each quilt - I think I'm almost done when the blocks are complete - then I have to sew them together --now I'm almost done, but wait I have the borders to do. Now I'm almost done - oh what about the back - am I piecing it or doing a whole cloth. Alright - the back is done - I'm almost there - except for the quilting - but first I have to pin baste, then pick out the quilting design, then quilt it, then bind it. When I actually finish I'm so happy!!

Yes, I get so excited when I finish a quilt. Last night, I finished the binding on Jenny Doan's Big Star quilt and gave it to my daughter this morning. Tonight, I finished the quilt sandwich on a quilt with a fishing theme that I am making for my grandson. I'll start quilting it tomorrow; but already, I am getting excited about finishing it and am ready to start the next quilt.

Most of the time, I can hardly wait to finish the top. One quilt, I actually got the giggles picking out the fabric! And it was from my stash! Right now I'm working on a quilt made from horse show ribbons.. and it's a pain! The rosettes are on cardboard and stapled AND glued. I'm trying to figure out HOW I'm going to do this. I've got it laid out on the floor and plan on sewing the ribbons indiviually onto a backing, and then putting the rosettes on. I've told this person I'm making it for, that it won't be a bed quilt. It will have to be a wall hanging. I also have some t-shirt quilts I'm making for some friends. I'm not totally excited about them, but it's fun to think of different ways to make them. But, GIGGLING when I'm making a quilt, is a real high!
