Helen Squire came to our guild this week and taught a class as well. OMG ! If you ever get a chance to take a class from her, DO IT. I couldn't make the guild meeting but the class was great.
This was the UFO class, no sewing involved. We all brought a top & all 17 of us had our top hung up and she made suggestions as to how to quilt it. Fantastic class! She says geometric tops need flowing quilting and applique/flowing quilts need straight quilting. The eye is pleased when it sees lines and curves. We should have our quilting planned b4 we buy the fabric LOL
She makes a muslin overlay for all her tops. It ends up being cheaper than paper. Audition different motifs using tracing paper and placing them on top.
Says on the final border skip the 1/4" seam and add 2". I had brain overload so can't remember much right now.
Someone said once if you ever get a chance to take a class from a national teacher - do it. They were right. You learn so much about quilting, not just on the class subject.

Wow, what a wonderful opportunity for you to learn more about quilting design! We should have some lessons like that here in Germany. So many quilters don't have a single idea how to quilt their quilts! Maybe I should offer a lesson like that...this would be a big challenge for me!
How many hours did the workshop last?
