Help with finishing Dresden Plate
I have made 27 dresden plate squares. I want to make them look old fashioned and want to do blanket stitch around them. Question is, do I do the stitching (by hand) with the batting and backing on or do I do it just on the blocks. I am going to do a simple stipple on the outer part (doing quilt as you go). I have been stuck on this for over a week and need to get moving on it..
Thanks for any help

My Mother and Grandmother made a lot of them in the 30's and 40's and always did the hand work before quilting. I have seen some done with both types of thread, the embroidery thread stands out more and was always the ones I liked best.

I finished my Dresdan Plate about 2 months ago. I did the button hole stitch around mine by hand using embroidery floss. I had it quilted by Charisma, a member of this board. There are pictures on here under Jackie's Dresdans if you would like to see it. I can't wait to see yours. One of my favorite patterns.

ditto what crafty pat said. Since you're quilting as you go, you won't have to worry about getting caught up in the embroidery stitches too much and they won't show on the back of the quilt. Can't wait to see the results, I'm sure it's a beauty.

I am not so happy with the blanket stitch. You can hardly see it. I am using 1 thread of DMC. Should I use 2 or maybe 3 threads?
