Help me brain storm what to do with my purple & blacks
I loved the purple/black print in the middle of my photo so I got it. Then I pulled out some of the purples and blacks I had to see if it all would meld into a quilt idea.
It hasn't yet.
I've looked at Google images and Pinterest and nothing grabbed my interest.
Soooo, I was hoping you guys would help my creative processes flow.
What would you do with these purples and blacks if you could do anything?
I have decent piecing skills so it doesn't have to be a simple quilt. I'm not overly fond of "quick quilt" techniques anyway. I'd rather do something a little more complex, and more fun
I would probably add white or grey as a constant background, probably white, since if grey, I'd probably want to match the grey in my main print. The only rule is I can't buy anything. But I have a great stash.
Oh, I also have an almost-all-black black and white that I forgot to add. And I have a bunch more purples.
In real life, the purples are a bit more toward violet than they are here.
Oh, I only have a yard of the main black-purple, so it can't be anything that over-uses it. I'm very much a (planned) scrappy quilter.
So, what do you think?

beautiful purple fabrics.
fun black and whites.
the print you love in the center - purple, black and white - I would use either as a backing - because each of the motifs in the pattern are so pretty that I would hate to cut them up - or it would make a very subtle kaleidoscope-type quilt if it were cut up. But to hack it up willy-nilly - that would cause me pain.

I don't have an idea for you, but I love your fabric!!!! Can't wait to see what suggestions you get. I wasn't able to get anywhere when I clicked the link for the crackers quilt. I googled it and there were several different ones called crackers. One of them reminded me of a quilt I made called Picnic, from a book called The Scrap Basket by Kim Barnett. (I think that is the name of the book. I have lent it to my sister and don't have it here for reference.)
Let me attach a picture of my quilt from that pattern and perhaps it will spark an interest. Purple is my favorite color.
Whatever you decide, I want to see this beautiful fabric in a quilt, so be sure to post a picture.
(I just read my first sentence....okay, maybe I do have an idea for you...)

quiltmouse: I love wombatquilts. She has great ideas. Good idea.
bearisgray: I know what you mean. I'm considering doing a kaleidoscope of some kind. I'm testing some schemes in EQ. I may use the "main" fabric as a border to tie all the other fabrics together, and might use just a touch of it in a few kaleids. That way I won't cut it up too much.
Dina: That is a super fun quilt. Thanks for the idea.

I think you need to separate your fabrics...much like you have them laid out...into lights and darks. Now Google 2 color quilts, OR red and white Quilts, OR blue and white quilts. make it scrappy, any pattern. Are you familiar with the pattern called my blue heaven, by Bonnie Hunter? ...or talking turkey, also by Bonnie Hunter? They are scrappy, but mainly two color quilts. It could be purple and white, or there are beautiful samplers, done in mainly 2 colors.

Or -- my favorite -- if you have some pinks, yellow and/or greens you could add from your stash, I think those fabrics would make an absolutely FABULOUS New York Beauty. There are probably a million and one takes on NYB. Here are a few of my absolute favorites:

The focus fabric reads to me like most of the flowers could be fussy-cut into 60 degree triangles or TriRec triangles and look nice, without a lot of wastage. I would be tempted to make a Thousand Pyramid quilt with purples pointed up and black+white prints pointed down.

Pretty fabrics! I'd suggest that you check out Bonnie Hunter's website www.quiltville.com, and see if anything strikes your interest. She has so many choices~~
