Help with PVC Quilting Frame
#1
I purchased all the materials to make a frame. Have it all cut to the dimensions I want. I purchased SnapClamps as well as the pipe in 1". The clamps are so tight I cannot get them on or off the pipe let alone a quilt in between.
So if someone has made one, do you use a smaller pipe that the clamp will go on so there is room for the quilt? This means a lot more fittings!!!
I have already spent $30+ and I do not want to be defeated.

yep i tried to order the top snap on ones online once but they gave no guarantee that they would fit.
I would think someone could cut them open a bit more for you, bit by bit till you get the easy fit you should have.
my Q Snap frame comes with top snap ones that have ribbing inside. that helps prevent the quilt from moving and helps keep them on. the original one i bought didn't have ribbing and was worthless!
this ad at JoAnns tells about the ribbing.

My husband made my PVC quilting frame.....used 1 in pipe. He ground the side off the 1 inch pipe to make the clamps. He said the grinding was a "great mess!!" but it works. He sanded the edges smooth and rounded the ends. This fits over over the quilt quite nicely. It does not have ridges, but I have had no problems with my quilt slipping when it is in the frame. I have extra clamps in various sizes.
