help with too busy fabric
#1
Hey all, I am in need of some advice. Can't offer a pic but the problem is I am trying to make a Yellow Brick throw quilt and I am afraid my fabrics are too busy. This is the first time I have tried to coordinate and thinkk I have failed. The colors are great together but I mixed large prints, tone on tone, solids and small prints. I have sewn the first 5 pieces and put them on my board, they are coming together better after the last piece was added but they don't seem to flow. Any ideas other than finishing it and using it myself??? Thanks so much for your help

If you go to webshots & then search out YBR quilts you'll see quite a few examples of what others have done. I made mine from oranges & blues mostly... I don't really think there was a "flow"" to it...

When I make these, I add a 4-1/2 (finished)border (cut 5" wide) then a final border of the blocks. Use something that reads 'solid', just to calm it down. I make these for my kids' friends for graduation. For the guys, it's fabrics of deer, moose, elk - they are all hunters. Because the fabric isn't cohesive in colors, I use that solid border to tie everything together. If this doesn't make sense, I'll try to post a picture tonight.
As for "Yellow Brick Road", it's just a name.
