Help with Viking Designer SE
I am fairly new to sewing and have been having trouble with the material getting stuck under the bobbin and also the bobbin thread showing on top. I have taken the bobbin out, cleaned the lint, put the bobbin back in, put in a new needle and looked for tutorials as I feel I must be doing something wrong. Does anyone have any experience with this or have any tips for me.

I don't have this particular machine but do have a Viking Platinum. Is this happening when you are piecing or FMQ? I'm guessing piecing. It sounds as though the tension is off - which is supposed to be automatic. If this is when you are piecing, start with a small scrap, in the middle of piece, then continue with your actual pieces to be sewn together. Check your manual to see which buttons need to be engaged for the auto tension to be working correctly. If this is going on when you are FMQ'ing, sorry I can't help you there. I don't do that.

The advice from NJ Quilter makes sense but also check to be REALLY sure you are threading your bobbin correctly. The Viking logo should be on top when the bobbin is seated in the bobbin assembly. When you thread it, hold the bobbin from spinning with one finger and be SURE you feel and hear the thread click into place as you follow the threading path. Also, when you thread the machine, put tension on the thread near the spool and be sure your presser foot is raised as you thread your machine. Check to be sure you are following the thread path and haven't missed a step. Hopefully I'm not insulting you but these basics can cause lots of sewing problems and they are easy mistakes to make on a new machine.

I have a Viking Rose and my quarter inch foot drives me crazy. It's just as wide as the feed dogs and the fabric tries to go in between the teeth. I started using the "B" foot and adjust the needle position to 1/4" from the right edge and it's great now. About the tension, I have to adjust the bobbin tension every time I turn on the machine even though it's supposed to be automatic. Otherwise my fabric starts to pucker.
