How to make a quilt pattern
#2
get graph paper and draw what is in your mind. Decide the size you want, then divide the size by the number of blocks to get the size to make your blocks, minus any boarder that is. I planned out most of my quilts on graph paper, then cut some material, put it up on the design wall to make sure it looked good. My design wall is 2 flannel table cloths sewn together and pinned to the wall. the flannel holds the blocks fairly well so I can see my plans. you can then adjust before sewing if you decide to change something.

I do alot of applique and thats how I design mine. I get a picture in my head and then go from there. I've been told I'm very visual and thats how I create. Ex; I made 3 quilts last year, that each had scarecrows, pumpkins, leaves and vines. All of them were done with various fall fabrics, and were quilt as you go. The center piece being the largest piece had 85% of th applique, then on the outer sashing I put black birds. Two of them where gifts and one was for my self. I kept the pattern pieces that I drew to use as my pattern . I've gotton an order for one this year. Use your imagination and let it fly.
