When I finnish a queen size quilt what should the dimensions be. I have a chart that says 84 x 92 but I
think my grand daughter is expecting it to be more like
90 x 100. What rule do you use. All the patterns are
not the same dimensions. I usually add another border
to be just a bit bigger.

Also need to decide if the pillows are going to go under the quilt or or be left on top of the quilt.

Yes, it depends on the mattress size and how much hang over you want. Mattresses today are so much thicker than they used to be. Makes it hard to use the charts that are available.
Also factor in the shrinkage factor. I made two bed sized quilts over the past 2 years and am afraid to wash them. They fit perfectly now, but I did not consider the shrinkage!

A bit bigger is always better. My husband is 6'5" and steals the quilt/sheets etc. The typical queen sized quilt is a bit too small in our circumstance. Some mattresses are also thicker/higher than others. I vote for the 90x100 (generous sized quilt)
