I finally stumbled onto a great fabric find! I think....LOL
My daughter and friend were talking about me making quilts, and the friend offered to give me a whole bunch of fabric. My daughter, who isn't a sewer at all and couldn't tell you what is quilting cottons, corduroy or fleece, said "sure". I picked it up yesterday and there are 3 boxes and 1 huge garbage bag of fabrics. Lots of yardage, a couple of bolts, and smaller pieces, and a wide variety of fabrics - crushed velvet to stretch terry, denim, dressy pants fabric, and about 10 yards of a beautiful navy/cream flowery print that I think has rayon in it. It will take me days to get it all sorted and then washed. What am I going to do with all that fabric that really isn't suitable for a quilt? Some of it still has tags and receipts dating back to 1994! I know rayon will shrink if washed/dried.....is it quiltable? I just can't toss it out.....well maybe the fake fur.....LOL. I can see lots of utility quilts and donation quilts in my future!

The courduroys, stretch denim, etc. would make good squares for the back of a square rag quilt! Some of those fabrics sound like great candidates to use in applique projects. Courduroy for a roof or in a wool applique project....crushed velvet is great in Baltimore albums.....think outside the box (pardon the pun).....LOL

Host a swap party! AS they say one persons unwanted can become one persons must have fabric. We used t do this with family, once a year we would bring our "stuff" and swap it was great fun. Anything left at the end went to Goodwill.

There are people that make stuffed animals, the fur can be used for that. Or depending on the color, I think it bight be cute to make a monster quilt and have patches of fur on it. Alot of the other types of fabric can be used to make purses and other items that aren't washed. If you aren't going to use it, give it away. A friend of mine gave me a few scraps of her fake fur and a pattern to make a mouse. She used to make cat toys years ago.
