I just viewed the video on tube quilting and want to give you instructions on how to do it. The originial idea came from Cozy Quilt Designs and a girl from Missouri Star Quilt Co. gave the demo in case you want to check out their websites. This technique has the look of a string block or an hourglass block when finished so keep this in mind. Try different layouts when finished. You'll be surprised.

1) Cut two strips 2-1/2" wide of contrasting fabs (dk. & med.) a yd long or to suit
2) Sew tog
3) Press to dk side
4) Measure. Your new width shd now be 4-1/4" wide
5) Cut (1) 4-1/4" wide lite colored fabric to coordinate w/the other 2
6) Now lay them on top of ea other
7) Now make a tube by sewing them tog down one side; then change directions (to keep fabric from bowing) and sew tog back in other direction
8) With your ruler lay the 45 degree line on your qtr. inch seam and cut
9) Slide the ruler down to the opposite seam and line up again the 45 degree line with the seam and cut
10) Repeat steps 8 and 9 until you run out of fabric to cut (no chance!)
11) Have fun playing w/your blocks!

The demo made 2-1/2 blocks out of 3 strips of fabric!

Hope this is helpful. You can read the other posts about the pt. issue some are having. Align everything properly so you will have good points on your blocks. Accuracy is key with this technique. Have fun. :-)

Thanks for putting these instructions out for the dial-up users. I didn't think about that when I posted the URL.

To eliminate the pt. problem, lay the 45 degree line of your ruler on the long cut edge of the fabric, not on the sewn seam. The top point of the ruler should be on the stitching line at the top.

Your welcome, burnsk! Someone brought it to my attn so promised I wd do it. Thanks for clearing up the "cutting off the points" issue. It seems so much better to align w/the edge of the fabric; now why didn't we think of that? ha. We've all only been sewing for yrs. ha.ha. 8) :-) :roll:

Yes, thank you for posting the written instructions. I have dial-up and it is going soooooo slowwwwww today. I tried to watch th video, gave up and then searched tube again and found this. You are great!!!

Thanks, Janis! You didn't miss much. Actually, it was annoying hearing her talk over top of the loud sounding sewing of the machine that we all know how to do anyway - sewing a tube together. The only thing to see was her cutting/putting the blocks together - and you can do that! Can't wait to see what you create w/this method! 8) Maybe you should try videoaccelerator.com and try SpeedBit. I think it's a free download for all dial-up users. Hope it helps! 8) :-) :roll:
