Invisible thread
#4
I've found that there are different types of monofilament thread, and the quality seems to be improving. The first one I used was Coats nylon, and I didn't like it very much. Then I tried Coats polyester, and it was fine. I understand there are some more nylon threads available that are pretty good.

I've never used invisible thread. When I think about it I think of fishing line. And maybe I'm totally off on the description. It isn't available where I live so I'm not even sure what the feel of it would be like. Possibly if other quilters think its going to be like sewing with fishing line then I can see why they might be turned off to it.

I have always wanted to try it but never had - I know there are diferent types but not sure about the pros and cons on each. Even though I haven't used it I do have a spool of nylon and a spool of polyester - I will have to test them out.
Any tips would be great!

there are a number of different brands, weights and fiber content of invisible threads. not all are created equal. if the one you use works well for you; you must have one of the good ones. be happy, no reason to go looking for problems

I have discovered InvisaFill thread. http://www.wonderfil.net/Invisafil.htm
The thread comes in tones that will seem to disappear on most fabrics.

I use invisible thread with sid. I love it. I use regular thread in bobbin and invisible on top. I'm terrible with fmq and this seems to work for me. I use nylon always and have no problems. Until I can master fmq , I will be using the invisible thread to finish my quilts. Blessings
