Japanese ?quilt suggestions
I want to make a Japanese wall hanging for my grandson and could use some ideas. Have a geisha theme for the middle but need to come up w/a border. Wondered about using jelly rolls and maybe 4 corners of embroidery in Japanese themes. Any ideas??

If you have an embroidery machine, I would look at the Sashiko designs at embroidery library. Even if you don't have a machine, you might find inspiration from them.

I did one for my son and did a lot of research on it. I did the kanji for wealth, health, double happiness and son. also had a koi fish, the color and direction have a lot to do with it so research the color and direction they are swimming. I also did a lotus flower, again research the color on this, different colors have different meanings. I did a gate design, google chinese gates, also a lantern, for illumination during dark periods. I wrote my son a note with all the symbolism on it and what it meant and how it was meaningful to him. show us what you did. I do not have a picture of his quilt, or i'd show it.

When I heard Japanese & 4 corners, I immediately thought about the 4 elements - earth, wind, water, fire. Perhaps you could do something with that ... although I like all the other ideas people have posted, too.
