Jelly Roll quilt variation
Has anyone ever "spliced" in 4 1/2" squares here and there after sewing the first two strings together? Thought I would ask in case someone may have pictures or have seen pictures, before I try it out.

I'm not sure I understand the question, but if I do, this sounds like the Jelly Roll Race pattern by Donna Jordan. You can see it on YouTube. Or you can get the pattern free on her website: Jordan Fabrics. It's an adjustable size Jelly Roll Race pattern, and the strips are vertically placed within the length of the quilt, not horizontally placed. It's an easy and very attractive pattern, one I plan to try one of these days.

I haven't used a square, but a 2 1/2" strip. Check out Missouri Star video 3.5 jelly roll tutorial that Jenny did. I just made a graduation quilt using her pattern. Turned out very well, but is a bit time consuming when one is in a hurry like I was last week.

I like the idea of the double row high square. I did a variation with black and white scraps and red squares. Yes, it is black and white and red all over... I'm not fully pleased with the way it came out. The black and white fabrics were left over from another project, as were most of the 4 patches I used for the border. While I thought at the time it was a good use of orphan blocks it really added an unnecessary level of complexity to the project.

Thank you Iceblossom, That is exactly what I was thinking of and as you explained it, a double row high square. You picture gives me a good idea of what it would look like. Thanks so much for posting your lovely quilt.
