jumping walking foot
I was sewing along on a strip quilt. I was stitching in the ditch and I am over half done with the quilting and now my walking foot is jumping every couple of inches or so. I bought a CS6000i machine from Amazon about 3 weeks ago. Haven't had any problems until this. Anyone else have this problem? It's not the machine, is it? I really wouldn't begin to know how to return to Amazon. Any advice?
Thanks all...............

Okay. I have taken the walking foot off and moved the "bar" thing that goes on the need arm thingy that sticks out on the right of the needle. When I move this thing up and down, I see that it is "catching." I also see that the metal is scrapped slightly now from the rub of touching something as it moves up. So, I guess I might have bent this arm. Any suggestions? I tried opening the walking foot with a screw driver, but that thing is so tight I couldn't get it to budge and hubby is not around right now!!! I guess I will try to work with just regular foot. Haven't done that yet. This is my first quilt to be quilted on a machine.

I would not try and open the foot. You can either return the whole package to amazon (hope you didn't toss the box) or buy a new walking foot. Walking feet can be tricky to install. Some of the arms go over the screw in the needle shaft, some go around it.

I put a little oil down in it and it seems to be moving up and down a little smoother. I am going to try it on the machine and see. Thanks for advice. My hubby says to just buy another one even if I get this one working that way I will always have a backup! He even suggested I buy 2 (he's one of those that always has to have extra of everything). Oh well.....

When my walking foot starts jumping or acting funny it is always because the screw holding it to the needle bar has come loose. Some of my older machines the walking foot is generic but there is a difference in generic brands. Always buy the better quality one.
