Large quilt in 2 pieces??
Greetings,
My husband wants a quilt 8' X 8' in his college's fabric. Finding the fabric isn't the problem, but trying to home-launder a quilt of this size would be impossible. Is there a way to make two pieces and somehow temporarily attach them while in use, but separate them for laundering? Velcro??? I do NOT wish to use the laundromat to was a large quilt like this.
Thanks for any info!

If you did 2 pieces, the join would be right in the middle. I think the zipper idea is good, but I would do 2 zippers, making the quilt 3 sections. If it's a bed quilt, then put the zippers along the edge where the mattress ends.
But getting back to the quilt, 8'X8' (96" X96") is about a queen size. Mine are usually 90 X 100, I use warm and natural batting and my queen size quilts fit just fine in my average size washer.

8' X 8' is only 96"...why do you think that is too large to launder? my queen quilts are normally 93" x 108" or larger- and fit just fine in my washer- my king quilt which is 110" square also has been through my washer/dryer without problems. i really don't think your hubby's quilt would be any more difficult to wash than any small queen sized blanket.

Me too, no problem washing that size quilt in my washer. Are you by any chance in Europe, where washing machines tend to be much smaller?
