I gave my DGS a kite Quilt last year for Christmas. My DD just told me he thinks it is to Girlly for him. He fips it over. I'll make him up one next year when he is 9. But what to make him?

I'm using the puzzle pattern for my great nephew, same age. I'm using sports fabrics because he plays softball and soccer.
Using the same pattern with NASCAR for another gnephew. Cars, checkered flags, race tracks, drivers, etc.
Did a hunting quilt for another - deer fabric with fishing on the other side.

My son is the same age and I have made him one from plaids, navy blue with beige stars (American flag-ish), dark greens and tans. The other one I made him was made out of star wars fabric. He also has rag quilts out of monkeys and transformers.

How about homespuns, they are dark, med plaids and such. Or Nascar. John Deer is big here in Wv. Or how about favorite sport or space.....Find out his likes. There is dinosaur fabric and animals not too hildish and would grow with him. Have fun,

I think your best bet is to find out what he likes. Cars, tools, Star Wars, books, etc. If he likes it, it won't be girly. Maybe when you visit him, you can kind of check out his room. Is it full of Legos, dinosaurs, girly posters? Boys that age are strange. Some are still very little kidish and some are much more mature. Look around and listen. You'll find something that you can both love.

My grandson has been into dirt bikes with his Dad since he was younger than that. So I found some dirt bike fabric and used for his quilt. But put a bug panel on the other side so he can be grown up or still young, whichever side he feels like using. Does your grandson have any particular interests? Does he like to read? You could use book prints too.
