Machine quilting a top already basted
#1
I have received from a friend 2 quilt tops that have been sandwiched and heavily basted. She has done a very good job of keeping the tension even on both the front and the backing. My question is, can I just load this on my LA on the takeup roller and bottom roller and quilt away?

I certainly would not. LA quilting pulls the fabric differently then when you hand quilt or tie a quilt. I would either give it back to your friend and have her remove the basting or just take it out yourself and quilt as usual. Besides, it would be really hard to remove the basting after you have quilted all over it.

I brought a quilt to a LAQ that was already basted. I know for a fact that she didn't un-baste it cause she told me she picked out the threads when she was done. I laughed and laughed and told her ... it was water soluable thread :)
