Making childrens clothes from quilting fabric?

I abhor making clothing from quilting fabric for one reason and one reason ONLY.
Because 100% cotton wrinkles HORRIBLY and I hate ironing!
I always head to the fashion fabrics section and choose fabrics that wash well and don't wrinkle badly. Crepe is one of my favorites. But fashion fabrics don't have as many fun prints as the quilt cottons do. It's a trade-off. I use my embroidery machine to embellish my little girl's dresses with fun things!

I make clothes for my granddaughter with quilt fabric. The only problem is that they usually need to be ironed after washing. But all the colors, patterns, etc. are so beautiful that it is worth it.

I even use quilting cottons for my boys for pants and shorts. Obviously those are more warm weather than cold, but they work great. Just expect that the knees will wear out faster than bottomweights like corduroy, etc., but this way they get more interesting pants and shorts than just solids. (They're so happy because I found a new Transformers print - the ones I made previously just tore out at the knees a few months ago, after 1-2 years of wearing/washing.)

I have a friend who wants to make dresses to sell and she keeps looking at quilting fabric because of the fabric patterns. I thought it wouldn't be suitable, being a slightly looser weave.
Anyone done this? And how did it go?
Thanks
Janice
