at the hampton roads quilt show i saw the new martinelli slotted ruler. it has many slots, a lot like the june taylor one, it's measured off in 1/2's and it's made the same way as the one that only has one slot. it doesn't slide around and - are you sitting down? - it costs $89.99 at the show and will cost $119.99 online plus s/h when they get it there. it is brand new. at the shows they sell the small mat, the rotary cutter and the old slotted ruler for the package price of $199.99. i don't know if they will offer it online.
$119.99? really?
btw, the old one that only cuts only one strip at a time is selling for a mere $49.99 at the shows instead of $69.99, which is the new full price. it almost makes you want to run out and buy the new one at $89.99, doesn't it?

a lot of people think they're lot better and in some ways they are. they don't slip at all. they have some kind of rubber on the bottom that grabs the fabric and holds on so that when you cut you get a straight cut every time. if you move the ruler, the fabric moves with the ruler exactly and stays in place. they're also very resistant to cuts and scratches, the guy really slams the ruler with the rotary blade and the edge stays unmarred. on the negative side, they weigh a lot. and of course they're a lot more money.
the june taylor, or tailor, ones are thinner and do get cut up. they have a tendency to bend sideways unless you hold the rotary cutter absolutely straight up and down and the blade doesn't always fit properly in the slot. but they're cheaper and they weight less.
up until recently, the martinelli ruler had only one slot, so you had to cut, then move, then cut, then move, etc. with the jt one, you could cut many at a time before you moved it. now it's not true. you can cut several with the martinelli, but imo the price is prohibitive for a ruler.

Wow, thanks for the description! I was wondering if they were actually better. I agree that the price is prohibitive unless maybe you are new to quilting and don't have a June Tailor mat and an Accuquilt Go! (unlike me).

I "have" a June Tailor ruler with 1/2 in slots. Used it in October and some gremlin has eaten it! I don't know what safe place I put it in. Certainly wanted to keep it from bending and breaking. But it is so safe I can't use it!!!! Guess I will have to run right out and buy one of these NEW ones. NOT!

I have the Martinelli slotted ruler, for $79.99, do not like it,, called Martinelli, lady said that I can ship it back at my cost and she would send me the five 45mm blades, which only cost about $40.00. Am I getting jipped or what?
Good thing I have a local rep, she told me to wait till after the Mid-Atlantic quilt show in Hampton and she would help me.
I went to the Quilt show Thursday, first day,,lol right by the door with all these women behind me,, it was like the running of the bulls, too funny. I was very proud of myself in my spending, buffet was good and lots of variety this year. I live in Virginia Beach so not too far to go to get to the show.
Take care and have a wonderful day!

LindaJoy, what did they do for you at the show? i'd love to know.
i was there the first day and you're right about the mob - they run right over you, right after the count-down part is done. btw, it doesn't get better the second day, just more mob.
there's no way i'll spend that much money on a ruler, slots or no slots. i quilted before they made those rulers and i'll manage without them now. i treated myself to a june taylor one a long time ago (whole 'nother story), i use it when i remember to, and that's enough for me.
