Material now being sold....

at my closest WalMart! (192nd & 1st in Vancouver USA!) We don't shop there regularly, but I popped in earlier this week and saw they had cleared one aisle for bolts of fabric and a cutting table!!! They had a few bolts -- I'd say less that 1/3 of their shelving, so will stop back later and see if they filled it up. The prices range from $4.47 - 5.07 per yard. Just be careful what you buy -- some of it is not worth #1 yard!

I bought some there a while back....never again...its was all thin. I cut all the pieces into Isawsolee (how ever its spelled) but I don't think I am going to sew them...I like thick fabric. Easier to sew and line up seams.

One way to tell the quality of a fabric: Hold it up to the light. If you can see your hand it is thin and poor quality.
Another way to check: a quality piece will feel smooth, with no rough spots or bumps. If it has too much stiffness to it and is lumpy, once the sizing is gone, the fabric will be limp and not worth your time to sew.

I am not shopping at wally world for fabric. At all! I was in a wonderful fabric store today while traveling. OH, she had the most beautiful fabric, I just couldn't resist. Decent prices too, so I bought enough for 2 quilts. The owner is concerned now that WWorld has fabric again. I will buy again at her store when I am in the area,(4 hours away from me though). I plan on bringing a friend or two next time too! We got to remember to support their stores as well. Such a nice lady!
Just my HO on what works for me! Not trying to step on toes.

the quality really depends on where you are I think..I found a WM in the city that had NICE fabric under $5 yd...but at our local WM..pure trash..not only thin..but coarse..like cheese cloth..the printing is off grain, and looks like it will just flake off...really, really horrid fabric...even for crafting!

I won't go looking at walmart for fabric if I need it, but i always check their remnants and clearance section. and Yesterday I got a score!
It was a batik, with gold lines printed on it to make it look like cracks. It was marked down to 1.50$ a yard!! I was pleased. Seems the gold print was not even color through out. It was a bronze color instead of gold. Not a problem for me!
