Memories Quilt Question...can you do it on a home computer?
#1
I need a little help with a memories quilt, or actually my mother-in-law has the questions. Years ago she made a memories quilt with pictures that she took to a silk screening company. They transfered the pictures on to white fabric and she then made her quilt.
She is wondering if it can now be done with the home computer and the printer? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. I will email her this link. Try to get her to sign up as a member too. She would love this site!
Thanks,

Correct...I did a memory quilt and the brand I use is at Joann's June Taylor 100% cotton ink jet fabric sheets 8 1/2 x11...You print your photo's either thru your computer or via your flat bed photocopy machine right onto the sheets. I try to get as many on one sheet as possible then cut to size. I use lite heat bond to adhere to fabric top and then do a decorative stitch around each photo...I did a pillow which I can download to show you...

I've used Precious Memories and used my Canon printer and my Epson printer. The Precious Memories is a little pricey, so fit as many photos as you can on it. You can also take it to Office Max or Staples and have them print it for you.

I used my HP Photosmart printer and they worked fine. Just make sure you have new ink cartridges before starting. I used the printed photos as the blocks, pieced in, not appliqued on top. So they work both ways. I was just a little afraid to quilt through the photo, as they're a little stiffer than regular cotton (even after washing), so just SID around them.

My mother-in-law just delivered the quilt she made using the advice you gave. It is stunning!!! It was for my daughter and it is just beautiful. I'll try to share a picture soon.
Thank you,
