memory quilt
Has anyone mixed different clothing fabrics to make
a memory quilt. A friends granddaughter wants me to
make a quilt out of her grandfathers clothing. There is some
denim, knit shirt, dress shirts and even a jacket and some
khaki pants. Unfortunately there is not enough of anyone
kind to make a sizable quilt. Any suggestions?

I cut mom's clothes into 5" squares and made simple quilts with the squares and sashing. I liked the 5" squares, as you could tell what shirts, pants, etc. they were from. I got about 12 5" squares from each shirt, and more from the pants. Be sure to back the knits with some fusible interfacing before cutting them so they don't stretch as you sew

for the 'stretchy' knit fabrics use a fusible interfacing to stabilize them- you can mix any and all fabrics/textiles to create a memory quilt- if the fabric is thin or stretchy just stabilize it.
