:-) MY FATHER JUST PASSED AWAY AND I AM GOING TO TRY AND MAKE A MEMORY QUILT WITH HIS CLOTHES. THIS WILL BE A FIRST FOR ME AND WOULD WELCOME ANY SUGGESTIONS. I AM A BEGINNER AT QUILTING I HAVE ONLY DONE THE MOST SIMPLE ONES. BUT, I WANT TO DO THIS SO MAY DADDY WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HOME CONTINUING TO MAKE IT WARM AND COZY. SO, PLEASE ANY HELP WOULD BE SO APPRECIATED BY ME AND MY FAMILY. I WILL BE DOING THIS ON A REG. SEWING MACHINE.

Am so sorry for your loss, the quilt will be a wonderful treasured memory of him. Wish that I had thought of that after my mom passed. My neighbor is doing one with her father's flannel shirts. A ragged edge quilt is easy and very pretty.

I love the idea of making a memorial for your dad. Sorry for your loss - it's never easy. This is a great way to remember him in a positive and lasting way. These are two quilts that I made for my children from clothing that meant something to them. The first is a quilt for my son from his shirts. Manly. There is one similar to this at www.quiltville.com The next one is a quilt for my daughter's wedding. I used scraps from all the dresses I made her as a little girl. I was supervisor of a fabric store and made most of the model clothing for the store, then got to keep them.

This is just a couple of examples of what can be done. Keep us posted!

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MAYBE THE BORDER BEING RED, WHITE AND BLUE, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT? I WAS ALSO THINKING OF FIND PRINTS OF HIS MEDALS AND RIBBONS HE WAS AWARDED LIKE THE PURPLE HEART AND PRINT ON FABRIC AS A SQ. OR MAYBE THAT SHOULD BE A SEPARATE QUILT. I AM THINKING SEPARATE. LIKE I SAID I AM NEW AT THIS AND DOING IT ON A REG. SEWING MACHINE.

You could do seperate quilts, the medal one would be nice as a wall hanging. You have lots of planning to do but will be something special.

My dear father-in-law passed away a few weeks ago. I mentioned to my mother-in-law that I was interested in making some lap quilts from his flannel shirts at a later date. He loved flannel shirts, and they will make cozy quilts. I'm planning very simple patterns, four patch or nine patch, and will likely purchase some solid-color flannel for sashing the blocks and the back of the quilts. I do think I'm going to cut out the chest pockets intact and use as a block, as they were near to his heart. I don't intend these to be show quilts, just soft and comforting.

My DIL made a Sun Bonnet Sue and Fisherman (?) out of her and her siblings baby clothes for her mother. It was so cute.

One question. What types of clothes did he like to wear the most ? Strange question I know, but if he has a lot of T-shirts, you could use them to make a quilt . Attach to stabilzer , cut out the front panels(designs) and add to fabric.
