Mettler thread
#1
I posted today a quilt I made for my friend's Grand son. She got all the materials including the thread, and she got red Mettler thread, #600. At some point the thread started to break, which is kind of unusual for Mettler. I opened the machine to clean it and make sure that nothing was caught. I was very surprised to find so much lint. My whole machine was red inside. There was lint everywhere. I cleaned it and the breakage stopped. I used Mettler a while ago and don't remember it being so linty. Has anyone else experience this recently? I now know which thread I will not used again.

Maride, it's funny you should mention this. I've been very disappointed in Mettler thread over the last year. I'm wondering if they've changed manufacturing countries or processes, because I've had the same experience as you. I'm not planning on buying any more of it. I'll use up what I've got and that's that! I'm much happier with Aurifil and even Guterman(which many folks poo-poo in the quilting world.) I've found Gutterman has less lint than Mettler. And Aurifil has practically none. So, I'm stocking up big time on the Aurifil. Who knows when they'll lower their standards too:

I was using a too small needle for a while and switched to a bigger one, but that was no solution. It was still linty. I am in love with Isa Cord and Sulky. Master Piece is also very good. No lint at all! I am glad I am not the only one having this problem.

I'll have to tell my sister about this as she uses Mettler all of the time. But she cleans her machine after every project. I use Gutterman and have not had much of a problem. That is what my lqs sells most and what I learned with, but will try some of the ones mentioned. Thanks for the heads up.
