A "Jelly Roll" is 2.5" X 42" strips of fabric, all in one fabric line. Usually there are about 40 strips in a Roll.
A "Layer Cake" is 40 10" X 10" squares, all in one fabric line.
Basically, pre-cut strips, ready to sew!

I have never purchased one of those jelly rolls. I didn't even know there there that many strips in a roll! Last night I cut out 2 2 1/2" strips from 18 different fabrics to make a quilt from the "Open a Can of Worms". Yep... I was cutting worms last night. This pattern needed 36 worms. I can see now how a jelly roll could have come into good use for this pattern. I have had those jelly rolls in my hands many times but have yet picked one up. I might have to do that soon!!! There are some yummy rolls out there too!!!
