Check out the free patterns at Moda. There's at least 4 or 5 free charm patterns. Also, just Google "free charm patterns." I'm sure you'll find something that will inspire you.

Bowties cut quickly and easily out of charms with little waste. You just need a background fabric to set them off.

Another is the Disappearing Nine Patch. Need to add one consistent color only and the rest can all be with the charm squares.

It's another version of the Disappearing Nine Patch, just has a consistant center fabric.
