Need help with binding
#1
Well, the time has come to bind my first quilt and I have chosen to use the backing as binding... because I thought it would be easiest.
Any way, I am having trouble making my corners lay flat and look neat. :-(
I searched through some of the binding threads, but I am getting more and more confused.
Could someone help me figure this out? I am not sure what I am doing wrong. HELP!!
Thanks in advance

Hi Denise,
Are you trying to bring the back to the front, or the front to the back? Or, are you using a separate fabric piece adding the binding? Have you allowed enough material to use this method?
How are you making your corners? Have you allowed enough fabric as you progress around each corner area?
Can you explain or provide a few pictures? More explaination of your process so far would help us to help you.

One of the things you have to do is clip off a triangle on the corner leaving at least a quarter of an inch but not enough that it'll show after you have the sides folded in. Then you fold that edge down first over the corner and then fold the two edges so they miter in the center of the corner.
edit to add: I searched and found some good instructions for you with some pictures.

I have left a batting edge of 1 inch and the backing is 2 1/4 inches past the top.
The corners are what are giving me fits...... To be honest.... I was thinking I needed to cut the corners, but I was/am afraid to do this because I do not want to mess it up.
thanks for the help I will

Thanks everyone...
It was a success until the last corner.... I cut too much off.
Now I guess I have to learn the other way as I have no clue how to fix this mess.
Just goes to show that cooking dinner, dealing with the kids and the dogs and learning something new is not the best plan.
