I put butterfly appliques on quilt to distract from line of blue that shouldn't have been...
question is what color of thread should be used for the applique of the butter flies...

If you match the thread to the butterflies, the stitching will show less. If you are unsure how well you will be able to stitch around the butterflies, that might be a good way to go. If you are confident about your stitching, contrasting thread will add color and make the butterflies pop more.

Red thread - not less than 40 weight. Gives it some definition. Or a color that will contrast with both the butterfly and the background. Just not the blue which you want to break up.
