I tried ONE square of the NYB and what a nightmare. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to go about doing this. I was able tot get the points just fine but when it came to doing the top and bottom curved pieces, well lets just say they didn't go so well.
It is a paper pieced pattern.

go very slowly on your curves. Before you start, pin the ends, and the center, then just sew slowly. Do you have a stick or something to help keep the fabric down when you are sewing the curves?
The paper piecing should take care of the points. Follow the lines carefully and you should have pinpoint precision.

You may need to clip seams, being careful not to cut past the 1/4" seamline. I found fusing a light weight interfacing to the fabric arches helped prevent any stretching and I had a line to sew on and everything turned out perfect. Hope this helps.

I don't want to sound condenscending...but you weren't trying to paper piece them, were you? I know that I have a tute for doing that, but it is a much harder method.
Also I have read that it goes better with one of the curved pieces on the bottom, but I can't remember which one (concave or convex)...maybe someone else reading this will be able to say :D:D:D
