Newbie Needs Help
#1
So, I don't mass up any more fabric---- I need help figuring out something for a block size. I need a 12 1/2 inch (12 finished) block. It has two 6 1/2 blocks (one each of two colors). The other two blocks are half square triangles. How do I figure out what to cut those for? I am sure this is pretty easy, but I am getting frustrated. Thanks so much for the help!!

Add 7/8" to the finished size when cutting a block in half diagonally for half square triangles. 6 1/2" + 7/8" = 7 3/8"
I'm sometimes sloppy in my stitching, so I would cut a couple of 7 1/2" squares for the half square triangles, then trim the stitched squares after pressing them.

Thank you so much. I never would have figured that out. The last one I did, I cut at 7 and that didn't work. I have no idea how to figure this type of thing out. Didn't learn that in my quilting class.

Sue here is a good site that explains it...hope this helps you. You can bookmark it and use it for future reference. Click on the quick piece method. You will get 2 HST out of each of those. Be sure you square them up to the needed size. crafty_linda_b
