Pieced border is my next goal but I do need the wisdom of my fellow quilters
I am making an appliqued flower quilt with pinwheels for my very wonderful granddaughter Sophia. I followed the pattern for this quilt and it's just not as large as I like my quilts to be even for a 1 year old, so I want to add a pieced border with lots of green batiks. I am stuck on how to plan measure and pick out something I like. I already changed the pattern a bit by adding trapunto to the flowers and I like that but I'm not flowing with idea's for the border. Send your expertise and creative talent along with tips. Have a wonderful day.

Since the theme is flowers, you could surround the main body with grass and a white picket fence. Add a narrow green batik band around for grass, then the top of the pickets (white triangles on green batik), then the white fence posts alternating with green batik.
If you Google "picket fence border quilts" and then click on "images", you will find pictures of several variations.

I would highly recommend the "Border Workbook" by Janet Kime. YOu can get a used copy of the first edition from amazon for the price of a magazine:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Border-Wor...order+workbook
She has lots of borders to choose from and a whole section on how to fit a pieced border to your quilt.
Basically, you pick out your border figure out how large the border will be, then add an inner border sized to make the pieced border fit. The orginal version of the book has B&W diagrams with color photos, the newer version is identical except the diagrams are color and the price ;-)

I may do the pickett fence border, I think it would go nicely. Still taking suggestions though. I usually make up my mind rather quickly with most things but not when I'm quilting for my Granddaughters
