I actually skewwed the back on one of my recent quilts, still not sure how I did that, but I ended up with about four inches short on one corner, and did not notice until it was nearly all quilted. I just cut a piece off the excess on the opposite corner, appliqued it in place, and embroidered along the stich line, and used it for the label to make it look intentional. No one knows it was a boo-boo except me!

This is my response when this happens to me (yes, and I've been quilting for 50 years):
1. If I need that piece of fabric I un-stitch and remove it, then restitch everything.
2. If I don't need the fabric piece and don't want it on the back I cut along side the stitching, about 1/8" on both sides. Then I can pick the small threads out of there and it is gone.
3. If I like the way it looks, I do as the others have said--turn it into an accent piece, a quilt label, etc.
Good luck. The worst thing you can do is be hard on yourself for this type of thing. It happens to all of us.

It is not a mistake - simply a reason for adding a design element! Do you have more of the teal fabric? if so, add the piece at the bottom - an angled cut. And then add a smaller but similar angled piece to the opposite top edge over the minky. Looks like you planned it!!! Most important, don't beat yourself up - it's how we all learned.

Yes, as stated above, we've all done the exact same thing. I have done it so many times, thinking that I had plenty of backing to sew on. Please show us the finished quilt....it's so pretty, and you are doing a great job on it.

I'm so thankful to all of you for the great suggestions. I'm excited to work on this when I get back from Mass this morning. This may have turned into a happy accident. LOL. I will post pictures of the "new and improved" quilt when I get it done. You ladies are AWESOME!!!
