points, matching seams and pressing
#1
Does anyone have a best way of learning how to do points, matching seams and how to press seams. I have been working on a couple of quilts...they say to press the seams this way or that way and at some point the seams are pressed the same direction causing bulk. I just purchase the two new Quilt Academy books Harriet Hargrave and her daughter Carrie Hargave. I think there will be 6 Volumes eventually. Only the first two Volumes out now. She has a different certain method with seams. Sometimes I wonder if pressing all seams open is the way to go

To match points perfectly, take a pin and push it from the wrong side to the right side vertically at the very tip of the point. Now push through the very tip of the point to match it to. Be sure to keep the pin vertical. I put two fingers on the underside, one on each side of the pin and hold it vertical, as I place a pin on each side the hold the fabric in place. When you stitch, your thread should be just a thread towards the edge away from the points to allow for the fold when opened.
