Polyester Fiber-fill Batting
My mom used to quilt and my sister gave me a roll of the polyester fiber-fill she used to use. Has anyone ever used this? I've only used the warm & natural batting. I'm going to make quilted place mats and thought I could use it since I have it. Would it hold up under frequent washings that place mats would get?

i use Mountain Mist polyester quilt batting all the time. I wash all quilts in cold water and have had no problem. I made a queen size quilt for a friend of mine over 20 years ago. he says the material is getting a bit frayed around some of the patches but otherwise still good. This guy likes to drag the quilt out to living room and curl up on floor to watch television. i made him the quilt after he destroyed a quilt he inherited from his grandmother by washing it in washer without thinking about fabric or batting contents. It totally fell apart ---he is in his 60's and his grandmothers quilt was probably made when his mother ( in her 90"s) was a child.

Poly batting works well for a lot of different projects. It won't shrink like Warm and Natural, so if you are looking for a smoother look, poly is good. You do need to check the package to see how close the quilting needs to be. Some battings will be loftier than others and that too will affect the final look. I use poly (Hobbs poly down) quite a bit and am happy with the final look and performance.
