prewash flannel..HELP

Oh No!
I am in the middle of making a rag quilt for my one grandaughter and saw the post about flannel at Joanns. Do you really have to prewash it? I did not. Everything I read online said not to wash it first. I have five more to make, so should I prewash that fabric first? Will the seams still rag properly after prewashing?
I am so new at this and at times, easily confused!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any flannel is going to shrink, that is why it is best to wash and dry it first. If you didn't wash any of it to begin with it will most likely shrink. Might want to wash this one and see how much before you do the others.Depending on the size, you might want to add a row. The seams will rag just fine after prewashing.

They say not to pre wash flannel, so it will rag better. I made several of Joanns flannel ,didn't pre wash & mine are fine.I also use it same way for backing. So soft & cuddly. Thay will be fine.

Thanks Pat,
I am just doing 5 inch squares with a 1/2 inch seam. (so tey are actually 6 inch squares). So you have never prewashed the flannel? I know you have to prewash cotton fabric.
Have a good day!
