Question about Tying a Quilt
#8
When I started making quilts, I used embroidery floss to tie them. I made 6 and 5 are still around over 20 years later. I have not had any tear at the ties, but my nephew wore out the blanket binding I put on his, he liked to rub it. So I replaced it twice. It was his comfort thing. Now occasionally I tie with variegated embroidery floss. I still like the look of it.

In the past I used yarn to tie quilts. I recently made quilts for my grandchildren and used embroidery floss to tie them and I like the effect so much better. I'll use floss to tie quilts from now on when needed.
I guess it boils down to the individual's preference. I really intend to just hand quilt from now on but you never know when you need to make a quickie.........LOL.

On wool quilts, I use tapestry wool (used in needlepoint). On cotton quilts, I use perle cotton, size 3 or size 5. Because it is a single strand, it doesn't tangle up or have multiple ends in the knot.
