I know that some of you do beautiful machine embroidery. So I have a question. I want to put some designs on a couple of my tee shirts. I have never done this before and am a little leery of doing it. What is the best type of stabilizer to use for this? Thanks for what ever you can tell me about this.

This might help. It's from Threads magazine. Scroll down and there is a yellow chart with info on what each kind of stabilizer is used for.

I prefer a cut away stabilizer on a tee shirt. It gives the design some stability after it's washed. I trim it as close to the design as I can and sometimes iron a piece of fusable tricot on the back of the tee chirst. It doesn't "itch" that way.

I do a good cut away on any tee shirt. I don't use a heavy weight though. I like a medium weight so it will flow with the shirt. It holds up and gives good stabilization. No wrinkles after washing. Trim very close to your stitching and it will be fine. Some will add a soft covering so there is no scratching. You can use a fusible web to cover the stitches but I don't have a problem with scratching at all.

I am new to ME and just embroidered some cute t-shirts for my grandkids. I used a medium weight cutaway. Be sure to wash the shirts first if they are cotton. I didn't prewash the first cotton shirt I embroidered, and after it came out of the dryer, it was a bit puckered around the design.

I just did some embroidery on two t-shirts, I used a cutaway stabilizer on the bottom and a water soluable stabilizer on the top to keep the thread from sinking down into the knit. Got excellent results. I used Tender Touch on top of the cutaway when I finished the design because the embroidery was in an area that would touch skin and the cutaway stabilizer can be stiff .
