Question regarding twin-size racing quilt.
My DGD wants her twin quilt to be like the racing quilts. Need some suggestions on making it into a twin size without losing or overdoing it. Thanks for your input.

I want to do an oversized queen quilt using strips cut from all my batiks ... I am making the strips 3-1/2" wide (3" finished), and want the finished quilt to be 96"X96" - so it's 32 (96"/3") rows X 96" ... 3072" for the starter strip, or 85-1/3 yards (not a problem, I'm sure I have at least 100 batiks in the magic bin, won't be able to get wof strips from every piece, but will mix in the short cuts along with the long cuts, it's going to be pretty scrappy ) ... what size do you want the finished quilt to be and what width strips do you want to start with? I can try to help you with the math

I think she means the jelly roll race quilts -- I'm trying to figure out how many strips I need to make mine bigger also - I want mine to be about 45 x 72 - nice couch throw size for us. Just remember you can add borders to the jelly roll race quilt to get it the size you want.

Thank you for your replies. I do mean the Jelly Roll Race Quilt. Strips are 2.5" wide and there are 40 to a pack. You sew the strips end-to-end with a diagonal seam, then fold the last strip (wof) up to the lst strip and sew strips together (2 strips wide). You continue to do this until the quilt has 32 strips together. You then cut the quilt in half and sew the last 2 sets of strips together. There are many Youtube shows and Missouri Star Quilts has a great tutorial.
I know that I can put borders on the quilt but don't want to take away from the original quilt.

If you are using jelly rolls, two 40 strip jelly rolls will make a quilt that measures 75 x 84 which is twin.
If you go to Missouri Star Quilt Company website there is a blog that discusses it. Additionally you can google jelly roll race quilt dimensions.
