Question as to sashing
I am making a fairly simple quilt, but want to then divide it into sections with thin sashing between the sections. I am wondering if anyone has ever made a whole quilt top and then cut it to put the sashing on. The effect I am looking for is similar to this picture. The reason I am asking it that it seems to get it that straight would be difficult. Am I on the wrong track Should I make my blocks and sash them as always?

If you want narrow sashing between the blocks you can slash the blocks and put it in but you still might get some wobbles. You could try appliquing strips on top or maybe even do your quilt QAYG for the narrow sashing. QAYG makes it easier to quilt blocks and then trim square before adding sashing. It is a little more work to then put sashing on the back but this might be a method for perfectly straight narrow sashing.

I have followed this tutorial: http://scrapatches.blogspot.com/2014...patchwork.html
I first did it with one block as she showed in a previous tute but then I did the whole quilt - I was very pleased with the
result. Don't know if this is the type you had in mind.
