Cheater cloth is a preprinted fabric that looks like you pieced a design, but it is printed on the cloth. A whole cloth quilt is a quilt made all of one fabric usually a solid color....no piecing. The quilting is the design. I hope that helps!

Whole cloth is a quilt that is not pieced, and is made with one large piece of fabric, or two pieces seamed together like the 108 " for backings etc. and this whole piece of fabric is quilted with desireable design. It is called a whole cloth quilt, because the fabric hasn't been cut and pieced. Hope this answers your question, and is understandable. My first definition about cheater cloth was completely wrong, do I deleted the definition. Gerbie

I'm hope this actually works. I've never tried posting a picture on this board. My mother-in-law made sure I knew how to quilt (it was years before I knew anyone actually used a sewing machine to do the quilting). I made two a LONG time ago and was scared to piece a top. It is a complicated story. Lets just say, she taught me very well and she impresses the heck out of me. She's 89 and still making quilts. She hand quilts several a year. This picture is of my first by myself quilt that I made for my daughter. The pattern has been in my husbands family for over 100 years. (It needs some TLC because I was dumb enough to save it in a cedar chest. If anyone has ideas on helping it, please let me know.)
